Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D K Shivakumar, has announced a series of infrastructure projects aimed at tackling Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion. The ambitious plans include double-decker flyovers, tunnel roads, and elevated corridors.

Responding to inquiries in the Legislative Council, Shivakumar acknowledged Bengaluru's unplanned growth compared to cities like New Delhi. While areas such as Jayanagar, Indiranagar, and Malleswaram feature organized layouts, the city at large faces significant traffic woes, exacerbated by the inexecusion of past projects like the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR).

The PRR's potential to alleviate traffic had diminished over time due to rising costs, now soaring to Rs 26,000 crore. However, action is underway, financed by a HUDCO loan. Among other initiatives, 320 km of new roads, 50-feet-wide buffer roads along storm drains, and double-decker flyovers with equal cost sharing from BBMP and BMRCL, also feature prominently in the government's comprehensive strategy.
