Volcanic Eruptions in Indonesia Cause Flight Disruptions and Evacuations
The Indonesian Vice President visited areas affected by eruptions of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano. The eruptions killed nine, affected thousands, and disrupted flights to Bali. The government plans to relocate residents permanently, while flights from several airlines have begun to resume.
In the wake of multiple eruptions from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, Indonesia's Vice President surveyed affected regions, where significant harm and displacement have occurred. Notably, the initial eruption on November 3 resulted in nine fatalities and extensive property damage.
Relocation is planned for 13,000 evacuees, while international flights to Bali have seen increased cancellations, though some have resumed operations.
A governmental statement highlighted the focus on providing adequate provisions, including for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
