Chandigarh has experienced the most severe air quality of the season, with the air quality index (AQI) reaching a worrying 427 level at noon on Thursday, surpassing even Delhi’s AQI of 424. The Central Pollution Control Board's Sameer app has highlighted this alarming figure.
Many regions in Haryana and Punjab, including Gurugram, Panchkula, and Amritsar, also reported poor air quality readings, entering 'very poor' and 'poor' categories. These conditions have sparked further concerns over the potential health impacts on residents.
Congress MP Manish Tewari has called for the closure of schools in Chandigarh to protect children from the severely polluted air. The ongoing stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana is suspected to be a major contributor to this escalating pollution issue.
