In a significant development, power distribution companies have successfully connected 6,791 applicants to the electricity grid in Delhi's unauthorised colonies. This electrification drive comes on the heels of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena's intervention.
The process saw a breakthrough after the Delhi Development Authority decided to do away with the no-objection certificate requirement, allowing more streamlined access to power. The initiative targeted four specific habitation categories across the city.
As stated by the Raj Niwas, remaining applications are being expedited, ensuring that more residents will soon have access to electricity. This move addresses the concerns raised by Bharatiya Janata Party representatives and aligns with broader urban development goals.
