Revealing Rembrandt: The Restoration of The Night Watch

In a detailed restoration initiative, eight art conservators are removing varnish from Rembrandt's renowned 'Night Watch.' The process, expected to span years, is aimed at revitalizing the masterpiece's original color and depth.

The endeavor commenced this Tuesday at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum, where director Taco Dibbits expressed anticipation over the restoration's potential to rejuvenate the artwork's iconic contrast between light and dark, thus enlivening its figures.

The 3.8 by 4.5-metre canvas, undergoing the extensive 'Operation Night Watch,' involves meticulously research-based techniques. A gentle solvent application is used to dissolve the varnish, preserving the painting for future admirers.
