In the early hours of Sunday, police allegedly detained three youths concerning an 'objectionable painting' created as part of a local protest against tree felling for a railway overbridge construction in Bharalamukh, the city reported.
An advocate visiting the Bharalamukh police station asserted that the youths had not been officially detained. 'The matter remains under investigation. If arrests ensue, requisite notifications will be issued,' he confirmed.
Residents staged a human chain and night sit-in on Saturday, opposing the clear-cutting of 80 trees. The painting, notably changed from an original potentially contentious word, displayed the plea 'Please Himanta Save Nature.' Official comment on the incident remains limited.
