Ukraine's Sunflower Surge: A Bright Future for 2025
Ukraine's sunflower seed harvest is set to increase by 6-8% in 2025, driven by a 5% rise in sowing area. Sunflower oil prices are rising, with export rates at $505-$535 per metric ton. The soybean area may decrease, enhancing sunflower seed cultivation.
Ukraine's sunflower seed production is poised for significant growth, with expectations of a 6-8% increase in 2025, according to analyst firm APK-Inform. This optimistic forecast is attributed to a projected 5% rise in the sowing area next year.
The ongoing climb in sunflower oil prices has played a pivotal role in shaping this outlook, as Ukraine continues to be a key player in the global sunflower seed market. Recently, indicative export prices for Ukrainian sunseeds increased by $15-$30 per metric ton, reaching $505-$535 on a Carriage Paid To (CPT) basis as of November 6.
APK-Inform also highlighted a potential shift in crop cultivation. The area designated for soybeans might decline by 7% to 10% due to unfavorable weather conditions and underwhelming yields, paving the way for expanded sunflower production.
