Kolkata battled with severe waterlogging on Friday morning, a direct result of relentless rain brought by Cyclone Dana. The rain inundated various city parts, making movement difficult and raising public concerns.
The Alipore Met office reported that Kolkata received over 100 mm of rainfall till 11:30 am, severely affecting traffic in south and central regions. Areas like Bhawanipur and New Market were particularly hard-hit with knee-deep water obstructing thoroughfares.
Efforts by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation included deploying suction trucks and pumps to alleviate the flooding. Despite the high alert and mobilized resources, the civic body's efforts are hampered by heavy rain and high tide, casting uncertainty on drainage successes.
