The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) announced a significant decrease in stubble burning cases during September and October, reflecting improved enforcement efforts. A total of 1,254 FIRs were filed and fines amounting to Rs 13.25 lakh imposed by the authorities.
The PPCB's proactive approach comes in response to the National Green Tribunal's demand for regular updates on stubble-burning incidents impacting air quality in the national capital region (NCR). Measures include adhering to directives from the Supreme Court and the Commission for Air Quality Management.
This year, incidents dropped sharply to 1,638, compared to previous years. The Punjab government's persistent efforts, covering September 15 to October 23, demonstrate ongoing commitment to curbing environmental pollution.
