Normal life in Bhubaneswar was severely disrupted on Thursday as Cyclone Dana approached Odisha's coastal region. The looming cyclone prompted many residents to remain indoors, resulting in noticeably reduced vehicular traffic.
Public transport systems faced a significant strain. The East Coast Railway cancelled 203 trains, while Bhubaneswar airport suspended flights between 5 pm on October 24 and 9 am the following day. The suspension affected around 40 flights, impacting numerous travel plans.
In response to the cyclone threat, authorities in Bhubaneswar proactively opened 85 shelter homes equipped with basic amenities. Civic bodies, alongside fire-fighting teams, worked on draining rainwater from vulnerable low-lying areas, ensuring safety as the cyclone approached.
