Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the threats posed by Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) as part of an effort to strengthen the state’s defenses against natural disasters.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the planned measures, which prioritize the protection of human life, property, and ecosystems through the adoption of diverse technologies such as remote sensing for early warning systems. He emphasized the importance of engaging local communities in these initiatives.
In response to an outburst in October, which claimed over 44 lives and damaged infrastructure, Tamang thanked the Centre for budget allocations towards GLOF prevention and announced plans to tour affected areas for a comprehensive perspective.
