India is witnessing a significant advancement in its nuclear energy sector as at least 10 nuclear reactors are currently under installation across the country. Among them, the reactors at Kakrapar in Gujarat have already commenced commercial power generation, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology reported on Monday.
These new reactors, located in states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana, boast a capacity of 700 MW each, and are anticipated to become operational in the coming years. The information was disclosed to the members of the Standing Committee of Parliament on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests and Climate Change during a recent meeting.
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader and member of the committee, highlighted that Kakrapar-3 and Kakrapar-4 have been synchronized with the grid. He emphasized this achievement as indigenously designed and developed, started under the Congress regime, and champions India's self-reliance in nuclear energy technology.
