Impending Cyclonic Storm to Hit Odisha-West Bengal Coastline

A low-pressure system over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. With wind speeds reaching 110 kmph, it's forecasted to hit the Odisha-West Bengal coastline between Puri and Sagar Island on October 24th night, causing heavy rains in several districts.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for a potential severe cyclonic storm brewing over the Bay of Bengal. This system, currently identified as a low-pressure area, is anticipated to gather strength, evolving into a cyclonic storm by October 23.

The cyclone is projected to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island between October 24 night and October 25 morning, carrying wind speeds between 100-110 kilometres per hour. In addition, heavy rainfall is forecasted across several south Bengal districts.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing out to sea from October 23 to 25 due to hazardous conditions. Coastal areas, including East and West Midnapore, Kolkata, and nearby districts, could experience severe weather disruptions.
