In an event that captivated attention, a wild tusker was successfully rescued on Thursday morning from an abandoned well in Odisha's Kalahandi district, according to forest officials.

The elephant, part of a five-member herd, accidentally fell into the well late Wednesday night in Jampada village, Narla block. Despite repeated efforts to escape on its own, the animal struggled to free itself.

Thanks to the determined efforts of forest personnel and the use of an earthmover, the pachyderm was lifted to safety. Upon rescue, the tusker rejoined its herd, which had patiently awaited its return. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (wildlife) Susanta Nanda shared a video of the rescue operation, praising the Kalahandi North forest division team for their commendable work.
