At least 14 people have died in devastating floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, sparked by intense rain and landslides, causing widespread destruction in Jablanica and Kiseljak. The situation has prompted requests for military assistance, with several areas completely cut off and numerous individuals reported missing.
At least 14 people have lost their lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina as floods and landslides wreak havoc across the nation. The disaster, marked as one of the worst since 2014, has obliterated homes and infrastructure, trapping the municipality of Jablanica, approximately 70 km southwest of Sarajevo.
The tripartite presidency, comprising Bosniak, Serb, and Croat representatives, urgently called for military support in the beleaguered area. Rescue operations are in full swing, with helicopters and rescue units trying to save stranded residents, including 17 from a mental hospital. Destruction is severe, with some homes reduced to mere rubble.
Caught in the deluge, the town of Kiseljak has also faced severe flooding after a river overflowed, causing substantial damage to properties and businesses. As the death toll looms the threat of rising, neighboring nations have also issued severe weather alerts, bracing themselves for potential impacts.
