As Wall Street awaited the decision, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose slightly by 41.4 points, or 0.10%, standing at 41,435.17.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 fell by 10.8 points, or 0.19%, to 5,615.21, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped significantly by 110.3 points, or 0.62%, to 17,573.702 at the opening bell.
