Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Friday that two lakh locations across the country have been designated for a national cleanliness drive as part of a 15-day social mobilisation campaign aimed at achieving a cleaner nation.

This effort, under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, features the theme 'Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata (4S).' The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti. Khattar highlighted that these locations, or 'cleanliness target units,' will undergo extensive cleaning, backed by stakeholders, from September 17 to October 2.

Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil pointed out that the campaign revolves around three main pillars: public participation, mega cleanliness drives, and single-window welfare camps for sanitation workers. The campaign will adopt a 'Whole of Society' and 'Whole of Government' approach, engaging communities, industries, NGOs, local bodies, and various government levels including central ministries and state units.
