Bihar Government Enforces Strict Measures on Rural Road Maintenance
The Bihar government has instructed the Rural Works Department (RWD) to take penal actions against contractors who fail to maintain rural roads constructed by them. An inspection drive covering 65,000 km of rural roads will be launched, with violations resulting in contractors being debarred. The RWD also plans to construct 26,000 km of new rural roads and 1,000 small bridges by 2025.

Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena directed Rural Works Department (RWD) officials on Wednesday to enforce penalties against contractors failing to maintain roads they built.
An immediate inspection of all 65,000 km of rural roads in the state will take place to identify neglected stretches.
Meanwhile, the RWD will construct 26,000 km of new rural roads and 1,000 small bridges before the 2025 assembly elections.
