The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has kicked off a significant project to upgrade more than 6,400 road signages in its jurisdiction, officials revealed on Tuesday. The initial phase involves finalizing tender documents for appointing a third-party contractor to execute this project.

With an estimated cost of Rs 18.07 crore, the revamp is slated to align with the latest Indian Road Congress guidelines, transforming the current green-background signages to blue. The plan, which received approval last month, also includes the introduction of advanced type XI reflective sheets to replace the outdated type IX sheets installed between 2009 and 2010.

The need for this overhaul was highlighted in the NDMC's budget for the 2024-25 fiscal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining road safety standards as per the newest guidelines. Implementation is projected to span four months, incorporating feedback from various departments and regulatory vetting processes.
