Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. This would grant the region law-making powers to protect its land and cultural identity.
Wangchuk, along with 75 volunteers, embarked on a foot march from Leh to New Delhi, pressing the Centre to resume dialogue with Ladakh's leadership. Despite submitting a memorandum to the prime minister in July, Wangchuk reported no response.
With Ladakh facing ecological challenges, Wangchuk emphasized the urgency of granting local indigenous people the autonomy to manage their fragile environment, drawing attention to the broader impacts of climate change.
