The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has greenlit nine expansive infrastructure projects around Mumbai, valued at Rs 12,500 crore. Among the flagship projects is the pivotal extension of the Eastern Freeway up to Thane, which aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion.

Announced on Thursday, the MMRDA's executive committee, chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik, endorsed these initiatives to improve urban mobility. The projects encompass a 13.45 km Thane Coastal Road, multiple creek bridges, and an elevated freeway extension, indicative of the government's commitment to enhancing the region's transport network.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner, emphasized that these projects are vital for addressing critical transportation needs and stimulating regional development. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed confidence that the new infrastructure will not only elevate residents' quality of life but also foster economic growth.
