Telangana Devastated by Torrential Rains: CM Seeks Immediate Aid

Torrential rains in Telangana have resulted in the tragic loss of 16 lives and immense property damage, the state government reported on Monday.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy estimated the damage at Rs 5,000 crore, seeking Rs 2,000 crore in immediate assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urging the declaration of the floods as a national calamity. Reddy also announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure swift relief efforts, including setting up control rooms and shifting people to relief camps. This monsoon fury has led to significant disruptions in rail and road connectivity, especially with neighboring Andhra Pradesh, caused severe agricultural losses and residential damage across the state.

South Central Railway officials confirmed the cancellation of over 432 trains and diverts of 139 others due to waterlogging on tracks, with restoration activities underway but possibly delayed by ongoing adverse conditions. Meanwhile, affected residents grapple with the cleanup of their inundated homes and the loss of valuables, calling for urgent distribution of essentials. The weather forecast remains dire with continued heavy rainfall expected, keeping the authorities on high alert.
