Karnataka's ambitious Rs 23,251.66 crore Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its first phase. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the stage-1 works on September 6. The project aims to be fully completed by March 31, 2027.

The project involves the lifting of 24.01 TMC of water during monsoon from various sources in the Western Ghats to address the chronic water shortage in areas like Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Hassan, and Bangalore Rural districts. Utilizing a total of 14.056 TMC of water, the initiative will benefit around 75.59 lakh people across 6,657 villages and 38 towns.

The water resources department confirmed that the first stage's lift and power supply works, which began in 2014, are now finished. The development also includes a 252.61 km Gravity Canal, of which 164.47 km has been completed. The project plans to release 1500 cusecs of water to Vani Vilasa Sagar temporarily, with a goal to fully implement the system by 2027.
