Tropical Storm Yagi, also known locally as Enteng, has wreaked havoc on northern Philippines, causing landslides and heavy rains that have resulted in the deaths of at least nine people. Schools and government offices in the densely populated capital region have been shut down as authorities responded to the crisis.
By midday Monday, Yagi was situated 115 kilometers northeast of Infanta town in Quezon province. With sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour, the storm continued to pose a significant threat, particularly to the main northern region of Luzon where flash floods and landslides were anticipated.
In Antipolo city, a landslide claimed three lives, including that of a pregnant woman. Four other individuals drowned in swollen creeks, while two more lost their lives due to landslides in central Philippines. Authorities continued to monitor flood levels and performed rescues and evacuations, as sea and air travel remained disrupted.
