Torrential rains battered Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the second consecutive day, resulting in significant casualties, widespread flooding, and disruptions to road and rail traffic. At least 10 more fatalities were reported as the relentless downpour continued on Sunday.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, officials cancelled 99 trains, partially cancelled four, and diverted 54 due to waterlogging on the South Central Railway network. Thousands of individuals were evacuated by national and state disaster relief teams to designated relief camps.
Officials forecast more heavy rain, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to assure state leaders of the central government's support. Authorities declared a holiday for all schools in Hyderabad as a precaution, while evacuation efforts continued in the most affected regions.
