In a significant move, the National Mission for Clean Ganga has approved five projects worth Rs 73 crore aimed at reducing pollution in the river Ganga across Uttar Pradesh. The decision was made during the 56th executive committee meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Rajeev Kumar Mital, Director General of NMCG.

The approved projects are aimed at minimizing pollution levels and ensuring the conservation of the river's ecosystem. These initiatives include the establishment of a Secretariat for Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers at Varanasi, which will be managed by IIT (BHU) under the supervision of NMCG. Incorporating global expertise and sustainable practices, this project aims to rejuvenate and enhance the country's smaller rivers.

Another crucial project involves the management of faecal sludge to reduce pollution in the river Ganga at Dalmau, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the Namami Gange Mission. Additionally, a sewerage project in Gulaothi focused on intercepting and diverting drains and sewage treatment works has been approved. Other initiatives include restoring lower-order streams and tributaries in the Upper Gomti River Basin, highlighting the importance of small rivers and streams for maintaining the water flow and ecosystem of larger rivers.
