Incessant rains over the last three days have filled nine dams in Nashik district to the brim, causing the Godavari river to overflow and wreaking havoc in the city.

Authorities promptly evacuated several residents living near the riverbanks to safer locations as a precautionary measure. Small shops and stalls in the Ramkund and Goda Ghat areas were temporarily relocated to mitigate potential damage.

District Guardian Minister Dadaji Bhuse inspected the flood-affected areas on Monday. On Sunday, small temples in the Ramkund area were submerged due to the floodwaters.

Nashik district has received 933.8 mm of rain, accounting for 75.5 per cent of the seasonal average this monsoon. The heavy downpour in the catchment areas has also led to a 90 per cent water stock increase in the Gangapur dam, which supplies water to Nashik city.

Additionally, Alandi, Waghad, Ojharkhed, Tisgaon, Bhavali, Waldevi, Bhojapur, Haranbari, and Kelzar dams are all reported to be at full capacity.
