The Delhi government is set to submit a revised 2019 Climate Action Plan to the Centre in the next two weeks, following rapid environmental degradation in recent years, Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced on Wednesday.
At a press conference, Rai emphasized the tangible impact of climate change, citing extreme weather events such as unprecedented heatwaves and record-breaking rainfall. He stated that the reckless exploitation of nature in the name of development has led to direct consequences for human lives.
The revised plan focuses on seven key areas: energy, urban planning, water, forests, transport, agriculture, and health. The previous plan covered six areas, including energy and transport. Work on the new policy began in 2021, with a draft completed in 2022 after extensive stakeholder consultations.
