Massive Landslides in Wayanad: 201 Dead, Over 300 Missing

A devastating landslide that struck Wayanad district in Kerala three days ago has led to 201 fatalities and left 264 people injured, according to the Kerala Health Department on Friday.
The department released figures showing that 201 bodies, including 82 women and 28 children, have been recovered. Additionally, 130 body parts were found. So far, 327 autopsies, including those on body parts, have been conducted, and 116 bodies have been handed over to relatives.
The disaster has left 264 people injured, of whom 176 have been discharged from hospitals. Two have been referred to other hospitals, while 86 are still receiving treatment in Wayanad hospitals. Kerala Health Minister Veena George noted in a Facebook post that ICUs in government hospitals have been prepared for those seriously injured and that genetic samples have been collected from all recovered body parts. Earlier, Wayanad District Collector Meghashree D R indicated that they are working on identifying body parts through genetic testing. Kerala ADGP M R Ajith Kumar mentioned that approximately 300 people remain missing. The district administration has relocated 9,328 people to 91 relief camps as rescue operators face challenges, including waterlogged soil, searching for survivors or bodies.
