Tropical Storm Gaemi Wreaks Havoc: 22 Dead in China
Torrential rains triggered by Tropical Storm Gaemi have resulted in at least 22 deaths in southeastern China. Hunan province is the worst affected, with heavy rainfall causing mudslides, property damage, and mass evacuations. The storm also impacted northeastern China and North Korea, causing severe flooding.
Torrential rains caused by Tropical Storm Gaemi have claimed at least seven lives and left three others missing in southeastern China, raising the storm's death toll to 22, according to state media reports on Tuesday.
Hunan province has borne the brunt of the storm, experiencing continuous heavy rainfall as Gaemi moved inland from its landfall in neighboring Fujian province. Official reports highlight the severe impact on Zixing city, where four deaths and three missing persons were reported. The downpour has damaged hundreds of homes and forced the evacuation of over 11,000 residents.
Meanwhile, three more bodies were discovered in a nearby village, victims of a sudden mudslide. In other parts of Hunan, the Juanshui River breached its banks, prompting the evacuation of more than 3,000 people. The storm's influence extended to northeastern China and North Korea, leading to extensive flooding along the Yalu River.
