Red Alert Issued for Wayanad Amid Devastating Landslides

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Wayanad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts, indicating extremely heavy rainfall. The alert follows landslides triggered by ongoing incessant rains.
An orange alert has been declared for the remaining districts of Kerala, excluding Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, forecasting heavy rainfall between 11 cm to 20 cm in 24 hours.
The state's disaster management teams, including multiple NDRF units and helicopters, are en route to Mundakkai in Wayanad, where the landslides occurred. The death toll has reached 23, and rescue operations continue as authorities expect it to rise.
