Meghalaya Tourism Disrupted: Pro-ILP Activists Arrested

Pro-ILP activists from the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) were arrested in Meghalaya for attempting to prevent tourists from visiting Sohra and Dawki. In a significant development, at least 10 members of the pro-ILP Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) were arrested in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on Friday. The activists attempted to stop tourists from Assam from visiting popular destinations Sohra and Dawki.

The incident temporarily disrupted tourist inflow until district authorities increased security measures. Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtynger confirmed heightened security and arrests, while Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong condemned the activists' actions, assuring uninterrupted access for tourists.

Tourism associations have called for strict action against the activists. The state's tourism sector, a key employment driver, has been impacted, prompting apologies and reassurances from local tourism stakeholders to affected visitors.
