The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken steps to mitigate waterlogging issues and improve city aesthetics in preparation for the upcoming World Heritage Committee (WHC) meeting. The meeting is scheduled to occur in the national capital from July 21 to 31.
CCTV cameras have been installed at 20 new locations, and 75 portable pumps have been procured to handle excessive rainfall. The measures come after a record 228 mm rainfall on June 28 caused severe waterlogging in areas like Bharti Nagar and Golf Links. The NDMC has set up six control rooms and deployed 175 personnel to monitor the situation. Additionally, 48 temporary staff operators are on standby.
As part of a special beautification drive, areas such as Khan Market and Connaught Place have seen enhancements, including potted plants and floral decorations. Eleven digital boards in Connaught Place will display historic photographs in collaboration with the New Delhi Traders Association. The WHC session will take place at Bharat Mandapam, previously used for the G20 Summit.
