The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is delighted to announce the launch of its Photo Competition for the WMO 2025 Calendar. The theme for this year’s competition is “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together,” reflecting the slogan for World Meteorological Day on 23 March.
The competition invites high-quality and meaningful photographs that capture people and communities collaborating to ensure universal protection from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving early warning systems. Additionally, WMO seeks photos that illustrate the power of nature and the urgent need to protect our beautiful planet from the impacts of human activities.
WMO encourages its Members to actively participate in the competition. Winning entries will be featured in the 2025 WMO Calendar and showcased on the WMO website, in public outreach materials, and across social media platforms. The photographs are also widely used by the United Nations to illustrate weather and climate-related features.
The WMO Calendar Competition has become one of the organization's most popular engagement activities, attracting many amazing photographers over the years. A notable entry from the 2016 competition is by Daniel Pavlinovic from Croatia, featuring a stormy sky with dramatic clouds and lightning striking near a mountainous island.
The 2025 edition holds extra significance as it marks the 75th anniversary of WMO. Stay tuned for more updates and participate in this special celebration by submitting your entries.
