Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh has initiated a pioneering effort to safeguard its cheetah population by applying a foreign ointment to their fur, officials stated. This initiative is aimed at preventing septicemia, a lethal bacterial infection that resulted in the deaths of three cheetahs last year.
Brought to India from South Africa and Namibia as part of a translocation project, the cheetahs at Kuno National Park are now receiving Anti Ecto Parasite Medicine to fend off potential infections. The ointment, sourced from South Africa, will be applied to all 13 adult cheetahs to ensure their health during the humid monsoon season.
'We have started applying the Anti Ecto Parasite Medicine (anti maggot) imported from South Africa to the cheetahs by immobilizing them with the onset of the rainy season,' KNP Director Uttam Sharma revealed to PTI. Despite past setbacks, Kuno National Park remains resolute in its mission to conserve and protect the cheetah population.
