A massive fire erupted in a shopping mall in Kolkata's Kasba area on Friday, three days after a blaze at a Park Street restaurant, a fire department official confirmed.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the blaze that originated on the third floor of the mall at around 12.15 pm. It took 16 fire tenders nearly two-and-a-half hours to control the inferno, the official stated.

'The fire is now under control, and a cooling process is in progress. Initial suspicions point toward the air conditioning system as the cause. Forensic analysis will ascertain the exact reason,' the official told PTI.

The fire, which began at a bookstore, quickly spread to the food court, necessitating the breaking of several glass panes to vent the smoke. Firefighters equipped with oxygen masks and hydraulic ladders managed the situation effectively.

Traffic around the mall was regulated due to heavy smoke, reported a senior officer from the Kolkata Traffic Police.

State Fire Minister Sujit Bose arrived at the spot and announced that an investigation would be conducted.

'No injuries have been reported, and the firefighters have done an outstanding job. We will issue a notice to the mall authorities, and any lapses found will be addressed,' Sujit Bose said.

Senior police officials were also present at the scene, and normal traffic resumed later on Rajdanga Main Road.
