A confrontation unfolded in Mumbai as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists protested outside the home of Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha, who recently joined the BJP. Police detained activists, including local leader Ruben Mascarenhas, during the demonstration, which AAP members maintain was peaceful in nature.
Preeti Sharma Menon, head of AAP's Mumbai unit, accused authorities of suppressing lawful protests and questioned why police allowed BJP to block roads while intervening against AAP's peaceful assembly. Despite prior notification, a heavy police presence was observed, restricting access to the main protest venue.
The activists moved their protest to Bandra station and beyond, asserting their cause against what they labeled as a betrayal by Chadha. In a social media post, Mascarenhas decried his detention as unjust, emphasizing that AAP remains determined to oppose Chadha's defection in a non-violent manner.
