Congress workers staged a protest in Tonk on Tuesday against the remarks made by BJP Rajasthan in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal about senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot. The controversy began during a programme in Tonk on Monday, when Agarwal referred to Pilot as an ''imposter,'' without naming him, and noted that the Tonk assembly constituency has a history of electing BJP legislators. However, he alleged that the current representative is a ''non-local.'' ''In Tonk, it has been a long-standing tradition that the MLA belongs to the BJP. Today, an imposter has become the MLA of Tonk. Surprisingly, he is neither a resident of Tonk nor of Rajasthan,'' he said. Reacting to the remarks, Congress workers led by party leader Saud Saeedi held a demonstration. They organised a symbolic funeral at Gandhi Park and took out a mock procession to Ghantaghar Chowk, raising slogans. Before burning the effigy, some protesters kicked it and hit it with slippers to express their anger. Saeedi condemned Agarwal's statement, calling it shameful. ''Such remarks were an attempt to gain cheap publicity,'' he said. PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition in the assembly Tikaram Jully and other leaders have also condemned the remarks.
