In an escalating political drama, Mumbai witnessed the detention of Aam Aadmi Party activists by the police on Sunday. The activists staged a protest against Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha, who recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Preeti Sharma Menon, AAP's Mumbai unit president, criticized the police for hindering a peaceful demonstration meant to label Chadha as a 'traitor'. Among the detained was local leader Ruben Mascharanhas. Despite verbal claims, authorities provided no detailed reasoning.
The protests erupted after seven Rajya Sabha members, including Chadha and Sandeep Pathak, aligned with BJP. Chadha justified their departure by accusing AAP of deviating from its foundational principles, values, and morals. The incident underscores a challenging period for Arvind Kejriwal's leadership.
