Gurung, a prominent figure after initiating the arrest of former PM K.P. Sharma Oli regarding Gen Z protest crackdowns, stated that public concerns over his financial dealings prompted his decision. Despite the lack of specifics, his announcement on social media reiterated his commitment to public trust.

Currently, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, recently elected on a platform of transparency and anti-corruption, will temporarily oversee the Home Ministry. The resignation marks another leadership challenge for Shah, who has already dismissed a labor minister over misconduct.
