Norway's foreign ministry announced on Wednesday that it has temporarily closed its embassy in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, due to a worsening security situation in the country.

The Norwegian decision follows a recent escalation in clashes in Upper Nile state, after South Sudan's President Salva Kiir dismissed the governor. He accused the governor of aligning with his political rival, First Vice President Riek Machar, exacerbating fears of a return to widespread conflict.

In response, Norway will conduct its diplomatic activities related to South Sudan from Nairobi, Kenya, until it is deemed safe to reopen the embassy in Juba, the ministry stated.
