Sanjay Kumar Mishra, the former Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been named as a full-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM). The appointment was confirmed by a government order, following approval from the Prime Minister.
During his tenure as ED chief, Mishra led significant investigations into major political figures and high-profile cases, which sparked controversy as opposition parties claimed the agency acted under government influence. Now, as part of the EAC-PM, Mishra will advise on economic issues as the body aims to guide the prime minister in these matters.
Mishra, a seasoned IRS officer, will serve in the rank and pay of a government secretary. His experience includes roles in the Income Tax Department and the Union Home Ministry. The vacancy on the council arose after the passing of former chairman Bibek Debroy in 2024. This move signifies Mishra's continued influence in India's fiscal and political landscape.
