In a sharp rebuke to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's remarks about Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the Maharashtra government's handling of criticism. Chaturvedi emphasized that the state's reaction underscored a worrying trend of intolerance towards dissent.
Kamra, who remains unapologetic about his comments made during a recent show, has drawn the ire of Maharashtra officials, including Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam. Kadam condemned Kamra's behavior, signaling potential repercussions for what he deemed as unacceptable and disrespectful comedy.
Minister Gulab Raghunath Patil echoed the sentiment, warning of retaliation should Kamra fail to apologize. Simultaneously, Kamra faces police summons, while an incident involving Shiv Sena workers vandalizing a Mumbai club where Kamra's show was filmed adds fuel to the ongoing debate on free speech in the state.
