In a heated political controversy, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam criticized stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra for making derogatory remarks about Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Nirupam alleged the show was funded by 'Matoshree', the residence of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, and demanded an apology from the comedian.

Nirupam accused Kamra of political motivations, linking him to the Congress and leftist ideologies. The Shiv Sena has vowed not to relent until Kamra apologizes, suggesting that party workers are actively seeking him, though it is believed Kamra has left Mumbai.

The dispute escalated with an FIR filed against Kamra and subsequent arrests following vandalism at a comedy club where Kamra performed. Nirupam emphasized that while freedom of expression is valued, it should not be misused, condemning Kamra's remarks as crude rather than comedic.
