The comment follows an attack by Shiv Sena workers on a cultural venue hosting comedian Kunal Kamra, who lampooned Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Maharashtra Congress chief condemned the attack on the Khar-based studio and hotel, questioning the faith of the attackers in their own government's laws. Sapkal highlighted the irony of utilizing state machinery aggressively in other cases while ignoring inflammatory remarks made by BJP minister Nitesh Rane.

Sapkal emphasized that the studio, a hub for diverse cultural programs, has a legacy tied to a freedom fighter. He described the attack as a broader assault on democracy and culture, urging government accountability and questioning the police's passive response to the incident.
