Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine to U.S. President Donald Trump. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated there is cautious optimism about the proposal. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, discussed U.S. relations with Putin in Moscow.

In a critical diplomatic move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has communicated a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine to U.S. President Donald Trump. This was revealed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday.
During late-night discussions in Moscow, Putin met with Steve Witkoff, a special envoy from the Trump administration, to deliberate over the U.S. proposal. The Kremlin acknowledged Ukraine's acceptance of the ceasefire idea. Peskov highlighted that Putin conveyed key messages to Trump through Witkoff regarding the U.S. perspective on Ukraine.
Peskov noted that there are potential reasons for cautious optimism after President Putin expressed support for Trump's stance on reaching a settlement, yet acknowledged that further questions remain unanswered. The timing of a direct call between the two leaders is expected to be arranged following Witkoff's briefing to Trump.
