Governor Newsom Seeks $40 Billion for Wildfire Recovery in California

California Governor Gavin Newsom has made a formal request to Congress for almost $40 billion in disaster funding. This assistance is aimed at helping Los Angeles recover from last month's devastating wildfires. According to a report by the Washington Post, Newsom stressed an "all-hands-on-deck" approach to rebuilding affected areas.

In a social media post, Newsom urged Congress to support Californians in their recovery efforts. The January wildfires severely impacted neighborhoods like Pacific Palisades and Altadena, resulting in 29 fatalities and the destruction of over 16,000 structures.

Newsom's letter detailed the economic toll on California and expressed a potential need for additional funds. The requested $16.8 billion would cover fire response, debris removal, and infrastructural repairs, while $9.9 billion is aimed at housing and infrastructure redevelopment.
