The Indian National Congress, intensifying its campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has announced a series of protests to be launched across Madhya Pradesh. The demonstrations will begin from Mhow, the birthplace of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, in January.
Citing the need to protect the nation's foundational document, Congress state president Jitu Patwari stated that party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi will lead the initiative. This move comes ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP has been accused of intending to alter the Constitution if reelected—a claim the ruling party has dismissed.
The choice of Madhya Pradesh as the protest's focal point relates to escalating crimes against Dalits and OBCs in the state. The recent death of a Dalit man in police custody has further fueled the Congress's resolve. Party leaders condemned the incident, emphasizing their commitment to justice and the rights of marginalized communities.
