Amidst the escalating controversy surrounding the sexual assault case at Anna University, former Telangana Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan convened with BJP President JP Nadda to further discuss the issue on Tuesday. In her ensuing statement to the press, Soundararajan criticized the DMK party, labeling them as 'political opportunists' for allegedly dismissing the incidents and concealing the truth from the public eye.
Soundararajan accused the DMK of suppressing freedom of expression within Tamil Nadu, recounting her personal experience of being detained for organizing a protest. She explained that she was held for eight to nine hours, adding that the National Women's Commission's investigation into the matter offered her some sense of satisfaction. 'Justice should be rendered to the girl,' she affirmed, standing firm in her call for accountability.
The BJP leader also took aim at the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister for downplaying the significance of the assault allegations, criticizing his comments as 'painful' for women. Citing additional harassment cases reported in both Chennai and Dharmapuri, Soundararajan underscored the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for women in educational settings.
