In a heated political face-off, BJP's Suvendu Adhikari addressed a rally in Sandeshkhali just a day after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's visit. Adhikari accused her administration of lodging false charges against women protesting against alleged TMC misdeeds in the region.
Addressing an audience on the Sundarbans-bordering island, Adhikari, the opposition leader, described Banerjee as having 'mischievous intent' and pledged to launch an inquiry into TMC atrocities if BJP captures power in the 2026 state elections.
Previously, Sandeshkhali saw significant protests over alleged land grabs and harassment by TMC leaders. Banerjee had urged women to ignore illicit summons and accused rivals of fueling unrest for political gain. The BJP leader also claimed TMC's Basirhat victory was Muslim-vote driven, but asserted forthcoming BJP progress.
